If the CDC has increased their Delta Ro because of the Ptown cohort, then they are overstating it for the general population. The cohort was 85% male (WaPo and NYT have both failed to mention this). Hello, it was Bear Week. rightly mentions packed bars, etc., but /1

1) Delta is much more infectious than the original: they estimate an Ro of 5-9, vs. the 2-3 for the original, which makes Delta "as transmissible as chicken pox." We've been estimating Ro of ~6 for Delta, or ~2x as infectious as original. It may be a bit worse than that.(3/13)

If you asked an ID expert to suggest the most efficient way for an infected vaxd person to infect another vaxd person, she'd say "let them deeply kiss for half a minute." Hoping CDC used other cohorts for their new Ro. Ptown's is skewed by (gay) boys being boys. /end

Addendum -- Even during its gayest week, Ptown is NOT 85% male tourists. The cohort skews 85% male for a reason. CDC is being too politically correct in not explaining this skew.

As I told my friends in the Ptown cohort, "don't worry, just like the early AIDS yrs, blowjobs are really safe; and PrEP kept your fucking safe too -- it's the kissing that got ya!"

I feel like this is obvious to anyone who lives in MA & is familiar w/ the P-town scene, & I’m surprised by how many people are dismissing you. It’s a safe place for gay men to be free & have fun & it’s a huge hook-up scene! This is not the same as your risk at the grocery store.

Yes, but gay people also know how important it is to do contact tracing and how to do it. That’s why it’s such an excellent data set. Citizen science by gay people, who learned the hard way that they are the only ones who will protect each other.
