Christ as a symbol of the self does not hinge upon the material resurrection. Rather, the self is resurrected and perfected as an ideal form throughout history, from Zoroaster, Osiris and other ancient conceptions to the present ideal of Christ as its most advanced.

If this is true then a newly evolved idealized symbol of the self can emerge in the noosphere. With our current fragmented sense-making, I cannot see this occur at the moment. Unless a meaning singularity is somehow unleashed.

I think it will come out of the Christ-image, and remain defined by it. The most radical left sees itself as the ultimate altruistic end of the Christ ideal, and the extreme right wants to wind back time and restore confidence in living tradition. Something with both will emerge.
