To be clear: future trade deal is now, according to PM, choice btwn FTA Canada or WTO deal with tariffs (Australia arrangement). Very different proposition to Johnson’s insistence in GE campaign there was ‘zero chance’ of No Deal exit by end of 2020. Goalposts certainly shifting

  3. We must constantly fight for our freedom. The first thing is to let everyone know. This is very serious. Democracies are not just about voting, but making sure that the truth is available even if it's sometimes unpalatable.

8/8 Searching for "truth" in the academic literature will become a political choice when "truth" is controlled by the publishers and libraries will take the easy routes. I shall continue to challenge this and hope that there are others.

4/ It is clear that libraries in the UK will be increasingly run by publishers (e.g. the provision of PURE repositories). I've met librarians who welcome involvement of in the infrastructure. I have not met cases where reseachers have been supported against publishers

3/ There is no point now in advertising the "exception" in UK as libraries, not researchers, make the decisions and they don't want to "upset publishers". There seems no point in fighting anymore - the time comes when you recognize you have lost the battle
