I wonder if TextExpander's switch to subscription-only could have been avoided if Apple hadn't sandboxed utilities out of the app store.

@petermaurer Since much of the focus seems to be on teams, it's probably not just because of the MAS.

@mcelhearn Agreed. But the option to stay there could have meant keeping a non-sync pay-once amateur version around.

@petermaurer Is it not possible for them to stay on the MAS? Has something changed (again) recently?

@mcelhearn Nope, still the same: They can't do significant updates, which makes something along the lines of TE 6 Light impossible.

@petermaurer It could have a slight impact, but we think it would end up like Slack – Free apps in App Stores and paid plan to use them

@TE_Snippets As someone who's never used Slack, I'm surprised Apple is OK with that. Seems like they're getting cheated out of their 30%?

@petermaurer App Store is packed with apps that use similar business model :)

@petermaurer iCloud Sync does not fit my problem and I pretend Apple forbids me to use or develop something else because I'm too lazy.

@petermaurer Apple is not pre-chewing the work for them well enough. Core Data does not fit a problem it was not designed to solve.

@petermaurer … The hardware to run the free developer tools is too expensive. Apple's service that solves some problems does not fit theirs…

@petermaurer … Apple is forcing them into the App Store. Apple is keeping them out of the App Store. The developer tools are too expensive.

@petermaurer No, because Mac and iOS developers always find something to whine about. Apple is taking all their money…
