wtf - what is that from?
Washington Post fact checking column, a consistent source of ridiculous fucking lies
this doesn’t even make sense? like, the quote doesn’t say anything about them being full time, or about what percentage of americans it is. like, the numbers they give here *support* exactly what he said.
that is indeed true, but the washington post fact checking column is typically known less for its adherence to the facts than to the shitty centrist politics of its author
I think part of the problem is that the deniers are still in the frame of mind that part-time work is just a fun little thing that a few people do to keep their hands busy—like sudoku! or knitting!—not the we-own-all-your-time-but-won’t-give-you-enough-hours hellscape that it is.
i'm almost more gobsmacked by the insinuation that part time jobs don't count as real employment.
right? of course they're part time, are they supposed to have two full time jobs? how would that even work?
"Full time" starts at about 30 hours a week and it doesn't have to be nine to five so it is *possible* if one of them is a graveyard shift. I've heard of folks doing this. Pretty debilitating obviously.
Of course the implication that cobbling together odd-hour shifts from a bunch of minimum-wage employers (I believe that's the more common case) is *less* stressful and unhealthy than that is pretty freakin' rich
How else would you describe 8 million...?
Thousands! Many many thousands! Thousands of thousands, in fact! No wait, scratch that last one. Can't say "thousands of thousands" when there's only eight thousands of thousands. That would be misleading.
Eighty-teen-hundred-hundred
Or maybe it is treating full time and part time the same when one says 'force to work 2 or 3 jobs'. If someone works 40 hours a week at one job and another works 20 hours each at 2 jobs, this is the same time spent working even though one has twice the jobs as the other.
love too work multiple jobs to get to 40 hours a week, totally do that on purpose because it's so convenient and rewarding
You get two commutes to work!
so many podcasts!
And don't have to get paid any OT even when I work almost 70 hours per week? Plus neither of my jobs are required to provide insurance benefits??? BONUS
Seems strange that one would willingly subject themselves to such a thing. Why do you depend on others to exist?
Does it appear that capital is growing to swallow up everything in this chart or is there an increase in taxes and land value instead? "Land has more holdout power than labor (which starves) and capital (which wastes)."pic.twitter.com/h6XpaNGMYS
Land has no cost of production and its supply is fixed. Allowing people to privatize these windfall profits is the root of our social problems, not some sort of exploitation by the 'forces of capital'.
