Yay! TMEM16F's changeable ion selectivity suggests potential unknown functions and reveals a general mechanism of TMEM16 proteins' ion conduction. I will thank Dr. Lily Jan for inviting me to be the co-corresponding author!

The Honduran white bat cuts the side veins extending out from the midrib of the large leaves of the Heliconia plant causing them to fold down to form a 'tent'. They cling to the roof of this tent in small colonies of up to half a dozen individuals

Yes. Conspiracy theories and racism against infected people are much more dangerous than disease itself.

Why does the heart beat faster during fight-or-flight response? This remarkable Nature paper performs APEX proximity labeling in beating mouse hearts (!!) to discover a new protein regulator (Rad) of voltage-gated Ca+2 channels. (1/2)

What it takes to publish a paper has dramatically changed over the past 2-3 decades. The 2020 expectation of exponential # figure panels required to publish a paper is getting a bit ridiculous, especially given the fact that NIH R01 modular cap of $250K hasn't changed since 1999.

Amazing! Respectfully by the way, the news should read “a new technique from Liqun Luo’s and Alice Ting’s teams”, shouldn’t omit the woman co-PI.

ATP-releasing Pannexin 1 assemble as a 7-mer, yet its architecture resembles connexin and LRRC8 (6-mers), and innexin (8-mer). Related CALHMs are both an 8- and 11-mers. What a weird and fascinating family of channels.
