A lot of orangs in captivity are rescued young orphans from the wild, usually after the mother is killed. They wouldn’t survive in the wild so this is the best place for them (as long as they’re looked after properly)

Maybe we should all start boycotting the palm oil industry.

It’s an idea......until you realise how many products have it in them. Pretty much everything......sad times

Orangutans rescued from those circumstances are rehabilitated & wherever possible released onto secure islands/territories, this little mite however is in a glass cage for human satisfaction !!

Good zoos aren't for human satisfaction or entertainment. Zoo management had come a long way from the Victorian era and its main goals now are to conserve the population both in-situ and ex-situ and educate the public. It's a requirement for a UK zoo license and BIAZA membership

There is no conservation value to captive bred animals, it's a fallacy, they are there to make money nothing more nothing less, if they were there for conservation purposes, leading conservationists wouldn't be against them !!

I was thinking more about how sad it is to see such a magnificent animal confined to a pen for the rest of its life for our entertainment.

It's not for our entertainment it's for his safety, he won't get shot in there.

Please tell me you don't actually believe that....

It's not a prison he has everything he loves even the opposite sex to reproduce so in few years the won't be extinct, as he would be in the wild.

Every cheap biscuit, every bit of Nutella, every vaguely named ‘vegetable oil’, all those cheap soaps and lipsticks, the list goes on... we are killing these little things as assuredly as we are consuming those products.
