Now that we’ve got the OMG @coindesk did not validate my preferred echo chamber reactions out of the way...
Here’s my take on the 2018 #CryptoInfluencers list.https://twitter.com/coindesk/status/1079784692151402496 …

6/ @bradydale’s story makes that case well and was one of my favorites from the series:http://ow.ly/Ixnq30natrc
7/ @jallaire & @psneville
It’s hard not to see how Circle isn’t well placed now in US exchange market.
No, they don’t have retail (yet), but they own OTC trading and liquidity. A huge differentiator: pioneering USD-C, a forward-thinking effort to displace the dreaded tether
8/ That @coinbase got behind USD-C rather than make their own (See: Gemini and itbit) is telling
Not the best year for these two perennial heavyweights but you could argue a quietly very strong one. Circle exits 2018 with a lot of pieces in place:http://ow.ly/UOjK30natxq
9/ @hesterpeirce
Hester has a great story. She’s a regulator in a powerful place.
What separates #cryptomom though is she made a choice. She chose to dissent the ETF rejection.
You can’t say the same about Giancarlo and Clayton, who were thrust into the bitcoin ETF debate
10/ @tjessop
Undoubtedly big year for institutional crypto and @Fidelity’s launch of Digital Asset services was likely its biggest story.
Profiling the person who lead the charge, someone who's work was mostly behind the scenes, easy choice.http://ow.ly/JcGO30natD4
11/ @glenweyl
This pick was driven almost entirely by our reporters most embedded on the #ethereum beat @rachelrose and @christinekim.
I’ll admit I didn’t know much about Glen before, other than seeing his name on papers with @vitalikbuterin, but he’s a fascinating person
12/ Taxing masculinity? Bidding for ads on clothing? Wild ideas. (See full story: http://ow.ly/wMcX30natHX )
Not all great ideas (maybe), but it's refreshing to see someone willing to challenge orthodoxy and boundaries. It's easy to see what makes him and #ethereum a match
13/ @jedmccaleb
McCaleb has built a project that was everywhere this year.
As enterprise shifts toward cryptocurrency, #stellar seems to be emerging as the platform of choice. See @Kik, @IBM, @blockchain, etc
Jed hasn’t changed either. Quiet builder, who has taken punches
IMO something that's undervalued in this space is appreciating someone's work regardless of whether it fits with your opinion. For all the fly-by-night projects, Stellar/Jed's vision are maturing and isn't that what free market competition is about?http://ow.ly/tHrJ30natQg
15/ #XRPArmy
This felt like an unavoidable choice. @tiffhayden and @xrptrump did really well in the voting but it also felt like a big year for online community building.
Say what you will, XRP has written the book on this. The group is also a fascinating sociological study.
16/ If 30% of XRP Army are bots, what about those that aren't? Ordinary people who are leading an online global dialogue? It’s a story that seems uniquely crypto – that people from outside Silicon Valley (some totally anonymous) can hold this type of position
17/ There’s also the grittier details which our story explores, I’ll let that do the talking. My top pick from the series. LINK:http://ow.ly/yA9e30nau28
19/ I feel like the #crypto community needs to be better at taking it on the chin and proving critics wrong.
I also think his core arguments are interesting. Most remind me of people like Johnny Dilley (who believe in bitcoin as sound money), but dismiss other cryptocurrencies
20/ I also think Nouriel's rise this year says more about just how loud you have to be to cut thru the insane noise around crypto
I hope to see the day you all in the industry prove @nouriel wrong and we're the better for it:http://ow.ly/6gGP30nau7J
21/ @starkness
Elizabeth might be the 1st person who I think might repeat over multiple years, something our criteria is set up to make very difficult.
Let’s face it, 2018's big untold story was the massive growth of #bitcoin's #lightning network and it will be big in 2019
22/ But Elizabeth is also a #BUIDLer, and has cross-industry appeal. Huge individual, two huge trends. Easy selection.
Fun fact I once tried to talk starkness out of taking the Lightning CEO job. Good thing she didn’t listen.
Great @La__Cuen profile:http://ow.ly/xwTc30naudF
23/ @cz_binance
CZ was, as has happened with our past #1 selections, a pretty unanimous choice.
He feels like a man of the times, in all the ways good and bad.
I‘ll let @wolfiezhao tell the rest of the story:http://ow.ly/EAoR30nauge
24/ Now I’m just going to retweet some of my favorite posts shitting on the series (because I think online dialogue is generally hilarious) and I appreciate people who take the time to dump on our work creatively
28/ This one from @TokenHash, who has already called me an idiot somewhere else I thinkpic.twitter.com/v3X42GAa3C
30/ Final thoughts... If you didn't like our list this year, there's always next year!
