So far coronavirus is less lethal than the flu, which kills 10-25,000 Americans a year. Yet airlines suspend routes, countries bar people traveling from China. What they are responding to in part is the lack of trust, transparency, and accountability in China's system.

Already True. Also around ~25% of
#CoronaVirus patients require intensive care. Intensive care for millions, or even 100,000s is logistically 'difficult'. When those patients don't get that care, the mortality rate will be significantly above 3% -
That figure is based upon a selected material of patients admitted to in hospital care in Wuhan and thus not representative of the infected population as a whole. Mortality in a similar group was 11-15%

Area outside Wuhan and Hubei province, nCoV2019 mortality rate is below 0.3%. I think the death rate is heavily related to medical staff&facilities in Hubei.pic.twitter.com/mRSTH9EJl6

That’s a very small sample size and many have not run the full course of the disease. We will not know the fatality rate for a couple more months yet.

Also... Current mortality rate is artificially low due to lag time between infection & (potential) death.... Death rate needs to be compared to the infected count “X” days ago. X = number of days between infection and knowing if you will survive or not.

Thank you! If
#ncov2019#coronavirus is as bad as the#spanishflu and 1% of the world population dies.... that is 80,000,000 people. if it is .1% who die, it will be 8,000,000 people either way, to me, 1 death is one too many everyone who dies is loved by someone -
There is so many ways this will be traumatic... To all of us.

Plus we have a vaccine for the flu, not for NCor2019 - which means the susceptible population for the latter is much greater.
