Probably in large part because one party has gone out of their way to marginalize them. Democrats haven't been great for African Americans but Republicans are bad for them.

Well when the Republican candidate is the son of a Klansman, has made money by discriminating against African Americans, and has a long history of racist remarks against African Americans, it's not really blind devotion so much as the only remaining logical choice.

Democrats are very diverse. Currently united against Trump, what happens when they get in power? Republicans are currently split in two, I think Democrats are far more fractured under the surface.

Hey Perry, it's a minor point, but ... it should read: "Africans-Americans overwhelmingly back Democratic candidates". https://www.npr.org/sections/ombudsman/2010/03/since_when_did_it_become_the_d.html …

But then the views in the Democratic Party are pretty diverse as well.

This old saw? Until Jesus Christ comes back and runs, there will never be a perfect candidate on any ballot on planet earth. It ain't the system, its us.

There is far less party loyalty in multiparty democracies than in the US. Why is that, when people get to vote for more representative parties? Clearly because that is not what voters actually want to do.
