and folks in abstentia -- I'm getting ready to do another sprint on the new generators package ( ). There's a couple of possible directions to go, what sounds good? (details below)

Was just arguing with someone saying that if the government has a mind reading device, they'd probably use it for good. WTF you think a lie detector is, but a rudimentary and completely inaccurate mind reading device used exclusively to make people's jobs easier by faking data.

Since I'm starting to share collections of my notebooks, here are my Studies, a collection of utility notebooks to learn and play with fragment shaders, 2D/3D SDFs, raytracing, etc...

1/ Did you know that Vannevar Bush (you know, the guy who helped enable everything from radar to the manhattan project, the NSF to memexes) wrote an autobiography? Turns out that yes he did, it's been out of print since the 70's, and it's *excellent* BOOK REPORT THREAD

Going fully remote was nice, but the real benefit was in going fully asynchronous. Here are a list of the benefits we've seen at : A thread 👇🏽

Final option and probably trickiest is to add a sort of compilation (from R to R) pass, which should put generator performance on a par with directly written iterators.

Generators require reimplementation of control flow operators, and I haven't yet done that with tryCatch and friends, so that's another next step. Involves a bit of a trick about unwinding/winding handlers for each yield. More of a trick if you want to yield from a handler.

Details/explanation: async/await would allow you to create and work with promises/futures using sequential, in-thread code. Implementation wise, async/await is just the "input" counterpart of gen/yield, so it's a natural extension. Would be interesting for apps.

Read lots of papers on theory over the last few months. When writing up discussion of new paper, I thought it might be useful to put papers together from which I (as theory noob) learned most. Here's the doc, in case you're interested: Feedback welcome!

"men are from mars, women are from venus" implies the existence of at least 6 other local genders of extreme variability, hundreds of thousands of other celestial genders, and possibly infinite extrasolar genders, many beyond what science has currently charted

This got me to thinking about Silicon Valley innovation. Today, androids are far beyond our technological capabilities. So what the Valley did was build it lean. Rather than building artificial laborers, the tech industry invented artificial supervisors.
