    In net, I find the stuff pretty disconcerting - but I also see its practicality, and find it helpful to remember that the alternatives (shredded tires, concrete, etc) have their issues too.

    Its installation is just as weird. Geofoam is cut with hot wires or chainsaws, and then just plopped into place

    Geofoam was first used in Norway in the 70s. The first sketch of it is utter stoner quality, but the project was a success and it quickly caught on:

    This stuff is wild - as and write, it's like some joke about capitalism run amok. We intentionally fill our landscapes with styrofoam, and somehow... it's justified
