Averaged +8 hours of sleep for the first time ever in January. Also getting back to a consistent reading habit. Some other areas I want to address: - Get back into group fitness classes - Reduce daily phone pickups (currently avg ~80/day)pic.twitter.com/VN6y8tVgc2

Xerox PARC made debate productive by converting disagreements from “class one” into “class two” “Class one” disagreement: combatants simply yelling at each other “Class two” disagreement: each side could explain the other side’s position to the other side’s satisfaction

One of the biggest drivers of new startups is the meddlesome, bureaucratic nature of big companies. Paradoxically, better BigCo organizational structures may actually be counterproductive to progress.

"what it would do to a creative brain to think creatively continuously...[computers] can give us our first look at unfettered thought. It can allow a decision maker to do almost nothing but decision making, instead of processing data to get into position to make the decision."

Found a nearly 10-year old unpublished piece I wrote about "Purpose & Partnership" that still resonates. "Putting down into writing "what it is we want" is a difficult exercise. Life generally does not require such precision..."https://www.pejmanjohn.com/purpose-partnership/ …

I know its cliche af but I like to listen to "The Dark Side of the Moon" when writing something big. It's unabashed attempts at big themes is the exact type of energy I need to bring to the task.

It’s funny how years of innovation and productivity experiments often lead a person back to where they started. The best path is to be curious & inefficient This seems to be a general pattern where experience takes you back where you started but with a higher order understanding

I grew up in SoCal watching Kobe and it’s only a mild exaggeration to say he was like a god down there. Star athletes take on a super hero aura to their fans. They seem invincible, particularly someone as fierce as Kobe.

Something missing in today's self-improvement milieu is thinking at a societal level. These ideas of using tech to improve output date back 50+ years. Except when Engelbart wrote "Improving Our Ability To Improve" he's talking about an enlightened society tackling global issues

"first we learn to flow with whatever comes. Then we learn to use whatever comes to our advantage. Finally, we learn to be completely self-sufficient and create our own earthquakes, so our mental process feeds itself explosive inspirations without the need for outside stimulus."

"States of mind are a better guide to modern work than values (which don’t always motivate), goals (which often change), and processes (which try to prescribe the unprescribable) precisely because moods are the only things that change just as fast as the world around us."

In my early 20s there was nothing greater than backpacking Europe. I never imagined I’d tire of it. Now looking back, I realize there was just a short span of years where that was exciting / relevant for me The a-ha: there is more urgency in life than we even acknowledge

One of the interesting things about your tastes changing over time is that over a lifetime you get a pretty broad sampling of experiences (vs. doing the same things over & over again) In that sense it’s a bit sad to outgrow something before you even got around to experiencing it

Haruki Murakami's vinyl collection playlist on Spotify is 3000+ songs of calming, heartwarming goodness. The perfect evening soundtrack. I put it on random each weeknight after picking up my son from school. ht
