Building on top of
#gtoolkit rather than, say, Rails, could have meant the difference between success and failure at multiple nonprofits and small companies I've worked at.1 reply 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -
The opportunity and efficiency gained by collaborating with non-engineering roles to define the data and representations at the heart of a technical system is hard to overstate.

Indeed. Yet, we find it hard to convey the impact of making the inside of a system explainable has on both productivity and happiness. It is such a departure from the status quo that it seems that people must experience it. Or at least we are not yet able to explain it otherwise.

The funny thing is that this does not sound any different from a scam: take this "whatever that is” and magic things will happen. On the other hand, this challenge is encountered with other complementary techniques, like
#TDD or#ContinuousDelivery, too.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
But, in your case, the message seems to have worked. May I ask what part of it resonated with you?

Sure, but I'm a Future of Coding person. I've been attentive to the ways social relationships show up in technical systems since I was nine and looking for other kids on BBSs. This is my jam.

In the organizations I alluded to, I don't think it would have taken a lot to convey the opportunity in using something like gtoolkit at the outset. Their concerns would have been with hindering their ability to hire engineers, which is very, very hard for small orgs.

I think the benefits far outweigh any train-up cost, but these organizations rarely have the experience or vision to be comfortable with the risk.
