Candidate for “most broken technology in widespread use”: HTML emails. Every time I'm trying to reply to an email that for some awful reason has formatting applied, my soul cries.

I daydream about what the world could be if only someone back then made HTML emails a small subset of HTML. “<blockquote>, <h1>, <p>, and <a> only” could have saved millions of dollars of wasted productivity down the line.

I'm not ashamed to admit that the first thing I do with these is copy-paste them into TextEdit to strip formatting, then I proceed with writing my response and then send my answer back as unformatted text. Is this passive aggression?

Most email clients have a convert to plain text menu option.
