Decided there will be no going back to Seattle. That means no going back for deep forest backpacking supplies either. Found a camping supply store in a nearby town. No website. Called them, they said they’ve got us covered. I think the critical things are water filter and food.

I don’t own a business so I can hustle hard and one day be rich and do this. I own a business so I can do this right now. I think people place way too much value on just collecting money for “one day.”

I tried this and it worked really well! I’m definitely carrying around candles now. The real test will be how it holds up on wet rainforest wood this week. https://twitter.com/mjzambotti/status/1025774053162926080?s=21 …

Planning the trip! There are car campsites (the square tent icons on this map) but if you backpack (the triangles) a world of camping possibilities opens up https://www.nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/upload/wildernessmap-10-25-16.pdf …pic.twitter.com/fgaYXp5i6N

Tomorrow’s the travel & prep day for forest backpacking. They require backpackers to get a permit partially for their safety, lets them track who’s out there.pic.twitter.com/SIN16hmo2C

I stayed up late last night researching, read about how to prevent bears from eating all my food Apparently hanging food high on trees isn’t so reliable in the Olympics, gotta get some bear canisters I’m not hiking all this way to bring the bears a picnic

Huge opportunity for mapping applications is showing National Park trails and campsites. Google Maps is almost completely blank in Olympic National Park, and it could make trip planning much easier even if cell reception’s bad there. Had to download static maps!pic.twitter.com/xKLcdcdV8F

Improving mapping of national and state parks in mapping apps not only helps hikers, it also helps increase awareness of these wonderful nature areas, which leads to better funding and preservation.

It's commercial and leaves something to be desired, but the @AllTrails app gets the job done.
