The foreskin is an evolved part of the penis, with multiple functions, including protection and pleasure. Infant boys should not have their genitals altered at birth at the whim of the adults supposed to protect them. And I did not say it was a justifiable reason for rape.

You're really over thinking this. If you have gone through the process you would know it's not a big deal. Maybe I'm being self absorbed but I couldn't really care either way. It's not like they're cutting the knob off. It's a slight alteration at most.

I think you're the one overthinking this. It's really quite simple: Not your body, not your choice. And no offense but you seem unaware that the parts ablated are functional and have been empirically shown to be the most sensitive parts of the penis. How could it have no effect?

But what about Jews? It's their religion and has to be done in infancy or before being accepted. We're really not talking about genital mutilation here.

I believe it's a violation of one's religious freedom to scar his body with the mark of a religion he didn't choose. Consenting Jewish men cam freely enter that covenant if they desire, but forcing it on an innocent child is indefensible to me. Do you also condone religious FGM?

Being circumcised doesn't stop someone from changing religions. You two really are ignorant if you think Jews should stop being circumcised because you think theres a problem with it when theres not. As far as im aware circumcised gentials are fully functional, so this is mute.

I said nothing about whether Jews should stop circumcising. I said they can do it as adults, when they can consent. Is circumcising girls ok as long as they can orgasm and give birth? I mean, that would mean their genitals are still 'functional'.

But they cant be Jewish until they've consented. Banning them from their families faith is wrong. And you cant just simply change religious scripture.

Tell that to the Jewish communities choosing brit shalom instead. Again, if my religion tells me to cut my daughter, is that ok? If not, why the double standard.

Because circumcisions are safe and pain free and have little affect on a man's life. brit shalom is a different thing altogether. Circumcisions are in scripture and is a necessity but fgm isn't. fgm is there as a control mechanism.

its a necessity because a fantasy scripture says you need to mutilate your male babies?

Surely you could make your case without reducing Judaism to a 'fantasy scripture' this shows me you have no argument left if you have to ridicule other people's right to faith.
