Jesus Christ. After Sb827 got wrecked now everyone in the national media is talking about nimbys in California and the yimby rebuttal. Love the articles, just a few weeks too late!https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2018/04/19/democrats-housing-problem/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.fc493813b288 …

I do enjoy people from the other parts of the country feigning confusion at the yimby solution of density. As I've said before, yimbyism from my perspective is a very Bay Area, if not California, centric housing solution to a California problem. Cant say the same elsewhere

How so? It seems very American, somehow, to be so bothered by 'other people' being nearby. Holds true even for natural spaces away from cities "it used to be great but now I see other people when I go there" (OMG! Terrible!)

Building more housing I dont think solves Detroit's problem

Ok, there are some declining places, but much more than CA is in demand these days, and they almost all have NIMBY problems. Portland, Seattle, Boulder, Austin, even here in Bend, which has plenty of people moving in from CA

Yeah, the one silver lining about the Bay Area is that it’s so far along the NIMBY curve that the YIMBY backlash has had the longest time to mature. I fear it’s going to get worse in other places before it gets better (even in L.A.)

Although YIMBYism might be less of an uphill fight in other places due to lack of Prop 13 and rent control.

Oregon managed to somewhat copy Prop 13 via Measures 5 47 and 50

Incidentally, has anyone ever tested how means-tested split-roll Prop 13 would fare at the ballot box? I don’t think I would even have much of a problem with a Prop 13 pared down to that.
