This is going to be an early and resounding defeat for #SB827, which quickly became one of the biggest housing bills in the country.

Watching rich home owners use poverty/housing advocates do their dirty work is disgusting.

Before any bill like this is brought up again, proponents have to do huge outreach and get input from low income communities. It's really bizzarre to see the alliance of wealthy exclusivist suburbs and underprivileged communities that opposed this.

It is an uphill battle for sure. Some amendments could improve the bill, but if the working class would rather prevent some overpriced condos from being built than lowering their own rent, then I am at a loss.

Hi, I just bought one of those “luxury condos” for me to live in. It will not be vacant and I will be freeing up a rent controlled apartment elsewhere in the city. I am displacing nobody, since the condo building replacing a former industrial one. I’m a walking counterexample.

Are you concerned about “displacement” of wealthy single family homeowners on the west side?

Then I’m glad we agree that we should upzone wealthy RH-1 areas on the west side. :)
