In light of the YIMBYs this week tipping their hand in attempting to no-platform tenants of color at risk of displacement due to SB827, I recommend the @antievictionmap's excellent report, "The Racial Contours of YIMBY/NIMBY Bay Area Gentrification" https://escholarship.org/uc/item/4sw2g485 …

It does an excellent job of explaining why instances like this week's are not aberrations but are very much in line with the racially exclusive values that underlie both YIMBY and NIMBYismpic.twitter.com/BVb2Uh7Rt6

this is the YIMBY's "Stein gave us Trump" and constitutes what feels like about 90% of the pro-827 arguments I hearpic.twitter.com/UmnNEjtIcU

YIMBYism's fundamental assertion is that housing of any kind will fix any housing crisis. That misunderstands the problem. We already have plenty of housing if you ignore all other classifications. That surplus becomes a deficit when you add the simple qualifier of affordability.pic.twitter.com/vddqaCuYTv

Here's
@SonjaTrauss saying the quiet part out loud If a person of color is no-fault evicted, the rent quadruples and the new tenant is wealthy, white and from a different area, well, that's just something that happens. Who can say why?pic.twitter.com/Kw63H59oix

I don't have a clue how SB827 proponents argue for unregulated supply-side in light of data like this, which persists across wealthy areas statewide. Feel free to hop in the mentions and explain because it's truly a head-scratcher to mepic.twitter.com/dj29VFZAoS

Replying to @schlocky5000
Those numbers don’t say what the paper implies (also, they come from Tim Redmond, who is a white millionaire homeowner). They only count absentee homeowners, who usually rent their units out. Not vacant units.

The real statistic to look at is the vacancy rate, which for Bay Area is abnormally low, suggesting that the problem really is too little supply for the demand.https://www.forbes.com/sites/erincarlyle/2015/04/16/san-francisco-tops-forbes-2015-list-of-worst-cities-for-renters/#64415d7b62fa …
