What do you call “(vec2 a, vec2 b) => a.x * b.y - a.y * b.x”?
Nothing, it’s the same thing. I’m just wondering which terminology people prefer.

Right, so I don’t see the benefit of defining a new term for something that’s already precisely defined (2x2 determinant)…

Well, in the example given, we have two vectors `a` & `b`, not a matrix | a.x b.x | | a.y b.y | Then the determinant is not defined. It behaves the same way indeed, but seing matrices as «vectors next to each others» isn't the most rigorous way of thinking about them IMHO.
