I think the #1 thing that drives me crazy about GC debates is that people don’t realize just how important bump allocation is for perf.
I don’t see how it amortizes. Once buckets are full, you start having to fill holes as long as *any* fragmentation remains. Or else leak.

You could optimize that by threading a linked list through or whatever…but at this point you’ve added too much complexity to inline malloc.

Buckets are contiguous, you can just use a binary map of occupied slots.
