Java does. Java-calling-native is fast; native-calling-Java (jni) isn't that fast but not prohibitively slow.

I thought it’s slow enough that pure Java w/HotSpot is often faster than C (modulo System.arraycopy, if it’s still worth using)... What’s a slower FFI?

If you take over enough of the world, there’s the theoretical possibility of adapting C to compile in a lightweight thread/compacting GC/etc. friendly way too
