Mac OS X imported the same Adobe OpenType code in 2000. But Apple never made it kernel-mode and has done massive fuzzing of the code along with the associated fixes. Which required reading 20+ year old font documentation to avoid compat issues…

Side Note: It turns out every single font creation tool has at least one bug in the way it produces font files. Designers do not want their $5000+ font to stop working or for it to render differently that expected…
