When Flash was getting the reputation for poor software quality, did Adobe deploy all possible effort to fix it, or underestimate the importance until it was too late?

from what i heard a dev at the time, two major parts of the problem were an arcane codebase few understood and many more constraints than most people realized

ex: had to work on a huge, huge long tail of platforms, resulting in a codebase filled with ifdefs

ex: could not trust drivers at all, so they had to use software compositing, because if they didn't, ~~~1% of users would just straight out bluescreen due to bad drivers

That had an advantage though: Flash is still the only major vector graphics renderer that actually goes to any effort to reduce overdraw…
