OTOH JavaScript engines probably *can* do this because stringifying numbers isn't global locale sensitive like printf is

If it had the flag to print + if positive, and sprintf is inlined, then the function returns arg < 0, dead store & malloc removal would work

Like, ironically, I think the biggest hurdle with optimizing this in LLVM is not *always* printing the sign, assuming you can inline sprintf
