You are a laudable exception. For now AMP has 3x the GH contributors to HTML.

On HN I proposed removing the AMP ban on animations that Chrome can’t composite (though WebRender can). IIRC, you said no.

AFAICT the only way forward, given your objections, is to rewrite Chrome’s painter/compositor on my own. Which I obviously can’t do.

AMP does care about being fast on today’s browsers. This is a moving target. I’m happy to discuss this particular case.

Can you describe what I need to do to get Chrome to make paint animations fast?

The “being fast in today’s browsers” restriction effectively gives Google Chrome management veto power over any AMP proposals.

In the vast majority of cases this is false. We typically eagerly take advantage of new browser features with graceful degradation.

We literally work on WebKit to bring alignment. We would work on Firefox if it had similar issues.

I hope then that AMP is responsive when we ship accelerated paint animations in Firefox.

I’d be beyond excited if stuff like animations of width would work for non-trivial cases on a phone.

We need to get Servo layout in shape for that, but yes, I want to do that too. Longer term though :) Short-term we can do border, color, etc
