While we’re all celebrating the death of Flash, it’s worth remembering that it still has a far superior vector rasterizer to Skia, D2D, etc.

Honestly, I’m not sure it would be that helpful to have the source…GPU vector rasterization should be better than what Flash does.

I've always been skeptical of Skia, but I'd like to see it improve regardless.

It’s a design problem. Skia is immediate mode without a depth buffer, which means it’ll always lose to full scene rasterizers.

For a proof of concept rasterizer similar to Flash’s, check out https://github.com/jrmuizel/full-scene-rasterizer … by my colleague @muizelaar

is much of the improvement over D2D, etc just the quick super-sampling? Or other tricks?

Whatever it is that Skia does, Chromium ends up visibly much slower on my machine that Firefox, which I assume just uses X11 rendering.
