Well, nobody would use Unix pipes: they’d use Unix sockets or Mach ports, etc. But anyway, for a protocol meant to be stable and extensible…
…it’s well-known how to do this with a wire protocol. Whereas doing the same with DLLs requires e.g. COM (IDEs are what COM was built for!)

Reasonable people can disagree as to whether wire protocols or COM-based DLLs are preferable…but I think most would prefer the former :)

Sure, let's ignore the C ABI exists and all the languages in question support it with rather simple FFI systems.
