Petzold-style Win32 isn’t a very good user experience even on Windows though. MS doesn’t use it anymore for new apps.

IMO these days Windows doesn’t even have a single “native” look and feel. Nor does Linux. Only on Mac is there any platform unity.

for the majority of our users Linux = Ubuntu, so GTK. The oddballs on KDE like me are a tiny exception

I know. I don't think you can even print without MFC (MSDN is unclear). I still can't see a good alternative

There’s nothing really great. If you made me make a desktop app I’d honestly use Electron as much as I hate its design.
