Don’t let browser dev evangelists shame you into using a subset of CSS their engine “can run on GPU”. Demand that they accelerate it all.

Not hard to accelerate to 60 FPS! Absolute positioning reflow is, or should be, *fast*.

Reflow animations are actually very useful (think things like expandable list items that push elements down). They should be fast.

The truly evil things in CSS are things like margin collapse and tables, not the usual complaints. Someday I’d like to give a talk on this…

The parts of CSS that are dumb aren’t particularly problematic for acceleration. The parts that *are* problematic aren’t dumb; e.g. floats

I’m sure you can do a better layout system for documents than CSS 2.1 and for apps than flexbox+grid—I just haven’t seen one deployed yet :)

Any chance of Servo having a standalone layout doing flexbox+grid for UI work in Rust?

Idk. Tried and true bullet proof techniques stand the test time. Put down build crunches and config toys and learn the craft first hand...

"CSS feature x and CSS feature y are slow"... Even if it's true now, it's likely not true 6 months from now
