Intel expands pointers beyond 48 bits. Prepare for OS compatibility flags for all the code that uses upper bits to store tags/etc.

(Oh, also it’s hard to get IPC as cheap as a function call when you have SMP…L4 usually has struggled with that)

I don't know the history with SMP, but the basic model I imagine is: you don't send messages to a thread.

Singularity "cheated" by not targeting native code and having a global GC. Actually really cool, but different tradeoffs.
