@pcwalton @0xMLR peer pressure comes from go users, not the go team. If you’re code is not well formatted, go users reject it.

@davecheney @0xmlr Yes, and I’m saying that that peer pressure won’t exist if we release a tool our community disagrees with.

@pcwalton @0xMLR I guess go was lucky that we had gofmt from the early days, it’s probably too late for rustfmt to become the de facto.

@davecheney @0xmlr We did have a formatting tool in the early days (rustc could do it), implemented like gofmt. But nobody liked its style.

@davecheney @0xmlr Perhaps over time we can tighten things up. But first thing is to get everyone using rustfmt as it is :)

@pcwalton @0xMLR hopefully, but I think if you wait til then you'll have camps entrenched on relatively minor formatting differences

@foglebird @davecheney @0xmlr Be opinionated: high risk of getting no use, high reward. Be a bit less: low risk, still pretty good reward.

@pcwalton @davecheney @0xMLR Not saying you're wrong or anything. But gofmt is no one's favorite style yet it's everyone's favorite.

@foglebird @davecheney @0xmlr I think that’s true in the Go community, but in the Rust community it’d just be no one’s favorite style.

@pcwalton @davecheney @0xMLR In any case, get rustfmt easily integrated into editors pronto - format on save is the best. :)
