The answer to 90% of questions about #rustlang is "Because it allows memory safety with zero overhead". (i.e. no GC.)
@true_droid @mraleph @psnively For example, render trees in Servo. The lifetimes are so complex I RC'd them; the overhead isn't noticeable.
