@sid0 My guess would be because of interoperability concerns with non-strict JS. @littlecalculist could say for sure.
I wish there were a way to make [[ToInt32]], [[ToUint32]], and [[ToNumber]] on strings throw. That would kill a lot of WTF's. #javascript
