Geometrically, bilinear interpolation is weird. It basically scales by drawing a bunch of axis-aligned hyperbolas between sample points.

Fundamentally SDF for font rendering works because the hyperbola formed by interpolating over the distance to a line is a degenerate hyperbola corresponding to that line itself.

That’s fine for lines, but I wish the texture sampling hardware didn’t give us axis-aligned hyperbolas for curves. They’re really inexpressive curves if you want to actually design things with them…
