All the syscalls for Rust hello world, annotated: https://gist.github.com/pcwalton/60ff97c2353feda11638be10118851f2 … I think the extra syscalls relative to glibc are the result of linking to pthread. Rust could go to the effort of not linking to pthread if no extra threads are spawned but…why?
Do you think Rust should go out of its way to add special cases for single-threaded programs?

Probably not, but that should actually solve itself when std::mutex switches to parking_lot, as long as -Wl,--as-needed is used.
