So, my Wayland compositor for AR and VR is working well. However, there are two problems that may make this a dead end: 1) Xwayland won't work over waypipe and even then, I'd need to implement a large part of X11 from scratch, 2) Not enough apps are Wayland native. [1/n]

There are two big issues with that approach: 1) Even getting all the libs to build on Android is like pulling teeth, 2) Each separate device would need a ton of separate work, which has already been done by the Unity folks. It'd also still need some kind of network transparency.

I’m well aware of the difficulties of building on Android :) I still think that it’s likely to be less work than trying to reimplement the whole protocol.
