Hmm, that doesn’t match my definition of overcommit. If you have enough swap space that’s not overcommitting, because you can always provide backing store for every request (so you don’t need an OOM killer, for example).

It doesn't really get to the root of what I'm thinking about though. Do you believe that browsers on Windows actually used the disk backed store regularly?
