There’s no more reliable way to disabuse someone of the idea that X11 is worth saving than to have them write a modern GL app without any frameworks, only raw GLX/Xlib.

To be fair (tm) that particular bit is the same on Windows with WGL :/ Much easier to do cross-process surface sharing on X11 though!

*If* GLX_texture_from_pixmap actually works, sure. (It doesn’t for me on Xwayland!)

Isn't wglCreateContextAttribsARB() approximately the same API? This seems like a GL thing. (I've written "modern" plain Xlib/GL programs, and X11 is a little old but seems more or less fine. What I saw of e.g. Wayland APIs looked seemed much less pleasant.)

WGL is even worse!

I just steal the Skia window / context creation classes from their examples.

Yesterday I wasted 2hrs until I was able to put a shared memory image on the screen using nothing but xcb and I'm still regretting trying it.
