Don't know about GPUs, on most CPU architectures they compile to plain old load/store instructions, but they disable some instruction recording optimizations. Which ones, you ask? Well, that is a very good question.

I believe they are due to LLVM compiler optimization "bugs". They are measurably slower in Rust.
