On mobile the situation is different, though even here Android isn't exactly a paragon of UI consistency.

macOS may be the only platform where the concept is clinging to life, but I still miss the idea of a native widget set on Windows, and think the idea is a worthy goal to maintain

Not sure I buy this. In Linux-land there have always been a couple major UI paradigms (Gnome/KDE/TCL/Tk) and it's always much nicer to use one consistent with your other applications. Electron / web dominance on desktop has certainly degraded this argument.

Windows, I will grant you, has always been a complex sedimentation of failed UX paradigms. I'm looking at you, Ribbon UI.

Non-native widgets are less accessible. I mean actual accessibility is impaired often enough by non-native UI frameworks.
