There is nobody advocating for beginners in the standards groups and when anyone brings it up they got shot down with “beginners will just use Unity”.
Beginners *do* use Unity, but that’s because they don’t realistically have a choice anymore. It’s like saying “let’s remove printf because beginners can just write a Web app to write hello world”.
I have (perhaps naive) hope that there's an opportunity for a mid-level API to arise. Getting hardware vendors out of the business of writing any more library than they need to seems like a good thing, and an open-source single-implementation middleware library could be better
