I always feel an existential dread when I have to reboot my computer. I never close apps and windows so it takes like 20 minutes. Lots of swapping in stale memory, confirmation dialogs, “application Foo canceled shutdown” etc

I don’t understand why shutting down takes any time at all. Closing an application should always just kill -9 the process. Rebooting should immediately reset the CPU without doing anything else. Any system that distinguishes clean and unclean exit is badly designed
