Intriguing thought which is not evident to me... could you elaborate (maybe with an example)? Also, where do you think Rust's actual RefCell comes up short?

imo RefCell is the wrong thing to focus on, we should be improving Cell with better syntactic sugar and more "&Cell<Outer> -> &Cell<Inner>" projections this is basically how everyone else's pointers work already so the hard part is keeping invalidate-able pointers short-lived

Isn't `&Cell<Outer>` => `&Cell<Inner>` always unsound? Because the inner cells reference would become invalidated if the outer cell is written to
