The issue about malformed messages bricking iPhones reminds me of the debates about whether Rust should support catching panics. This is why you need to be able to catch panics. :)
Sure, in that language, but I think the issue is a good example of why you need to be able to catch panics.

I don't think so. NSExceptions are used for more than fatal errors. In languages without try/catch, it seems the NSException in this case would have been an error return, not an abort(). But of course that's up to the maintainer
