One thing I think is underappreciated about vector APIs like <canvas> is how easy they are to get started with. Even kids can learn them. Fast vector rendering opens the door to high-performance graphics to a much wider audience than before.
Teach people how colors, gradients, and images work. Then say “but what if we want something else?” Tada: shaders.

This is a lot better than the way shaders are usually taught (“this stupid thing you have to write to render a triangle”) because it teaches people *why* we have programmable shaders.
