It would be interesting to see a breakdown of usage of OpenGL vs. Metal vs. a Metal wrapper like MoltenVK on Apple hardware. My guess is that programming directly to Metal is not that popular (I see no benefit to it), but I don't really know.

Yeah, well, somewhat. I'd say metal is FAR superior to Vulkan/DX12 as for ease of use. Its 150 loc for a triangle, its easy its clean. Its for their platform. I get it. iOS is massive compared to the other platforms as well.

From a desktop OS point of view its slightly annoying yes, but considering how many people are walking around with a metal mobile device, sheer numbers say they are entitled to their own next gen API really.
