I'm thinking of a somewhat different phenomenon, where having rr to compare against and to validate the area makes related work easier to publish, regardless of how popular rr is.

It honestly improves my perception of academia. My view of academia is overly concerned with theoretical at the expense of practical. Refusing speculative work until it's proven in the real world at scale is how I think I'd like it to work given my druthers.
