Automake didn’t find the native wasm compiler when I passed --target=wasm32-unknown-none and silently built a native version of the library instead. How helpful!

I can really feel them from several perspectives, the most acute one for me being how opaque Cargo is. If autoconf (and I resent no build system more than autoconf) had cargo#4866, I know I can hack around it.

But in Cargo the answer is "fork every single transitive dependency of your embedded project once it gets past a certain size" and I don't think this is acknowledged much.

I like redo build tool and I find it wasteful that everyone reimplements build system for each language. Okay, dependency magament different, but everything else is basically the same. Why is everyone suddenly thinking DRY doesn't apply there?
